Madurai is the commercial and medical centre of southern Tamil Nadu. It has SIDCO estates, IT parks and hospitals, and it is the gateway to new plants in Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar. It is also where many of Tamil Nadu's factory workers come from. Godstone Consultech recruits, onboards and pays contract, temporary and permanent staff for Madurai employers, managed from our Chennai office, with Tamil Nadu compliance handled.
Tell us the site, roles and shift pattern. We come back with an itemised rate card and a sourcing plan.
We do not have an office in Madurai. The city is about 460 km from our Guindy office, an overnight train or a short flight away. We recruit locally in Madurai and the neighbouring districts, run interviews and onboarding at your premises, and appoint a coordinator for larger teams. Payroll, PF, ESI, professional tax and labour welfare fund are run centrally from Chennai.
Madurai works well for two kinds of client: employers in and around the city who need steady teams, and employers elsewhere in Tamil Nadu who want to recruit from the south. Many workers from Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga districts take factory jobs in Chennai and Coimbatore. Some now prefer to work closer to home.
Madurai's employment is spread across small SIDCO estates, IT parks, a large hospital sector and new projects further south. Pick an area to see the employers there, the roles in demand and the shift and commute issues to plan for.
Site in Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar or Thoothukudi? Tell us where. We will be honest about what we can cover well.
Madurai's labour market has real advantages, including graduates, a steady supply of freshers and workers keen to stay close to home, but it has its own patterns too.
Madurai has plenty of ITI, diploma and graduate freshers, but fewer experienced machinists than Chennai or Coimbatore. Budget for training time, or consider apprenticeships for entry roles.
Many workers from the southern districts spent years in bigger industrial cities and want jobs closer to family. They are a strong source of experienced people if you reach them through referrals and local networks.
Temple festivals and the April–June heat affect attendance and outdoor work. We plan standby workers and shift timings around them.
We screen for aptitude and reliability as well as experience, prepare batches for your induction, and give every site one coordinator who deals with attendance and replacements.
Healthcare, moulding and services roles make up most Madurai requirements. This is what we check before a candidate reaches you.
| Role | Where the demand is | What we check before deployment |
|---|---|---|
| Staff nurses | Multi-speciality, eye and teaching hospitals | Nursing council registration check, clinical-skills interview with your nursing head, and shift availability |
| Ward, OT & lab assistants | Hospitals and diagnostic centres | Certificate verification, infection-control briefing, reference check |
| Injection-moulding operators | Kappalur SIDCO polymer units | Machine familiarity, mould-change basics, defect recognition (short shot, flash, sink marks) |
| Machine operators & fitters | K. Pudur, Uranganpatti, Kappalur | Practical test on comparable machines, drawing reading, safety briefing |
| Hotel & kitchen staff | Hotels and restaurants near the temple and bypass roads | Food-handling hygiene, trade test for cooks, grooming and reference check |
| Back office, BPO & transcription | ELCOT IT SEZs and city offices | Typing speed and accuracy, English comprehension, listening test for transcription |
| Production trainees | New plants in the southern corridor | ITI or diploma verification, aptitude test, and registration as an apprentice where the scheme fits |
Madurai follows the same State laws as Chennai. The differences that matter are your scheduled employment, especially if you run a hospital or hotel, your zone, and the local body that collects professional tax.
| Rule | What applies in Madurai | What we handle |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum wages | Fixed by scheduled employment and zone. Madurai Corporation is Zone A. Units on the outskirts, such as parts of Kappalur or Thirumangalam, may fall under a municipality or panchayat in a lower zone. Hospitals, hotels and shops each have their own schedule. The VDA is revised every April. | We match each role to the right schedule and zone and show basic, VDA and allowances on the rate card. |
| Professional tax | Half-yearly, collected by Madurai City Municipal Corporation or the local body where the employee works, with slabs set locally. | We register and remit to the correct local body. |
| Hospitals & hotels | Establishments come under the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act (online registration, mandatory at 10+ workers). Registered nurses must hold a valid nursing council registration. Round-the-clock rosters must respect daily and weekly hour limits and overtime pay. | We verify registrations and keep attendance and overtime records ready for inspection. |
| Women at night | Hospitals, BPOs and hotels can roster women at night with written consent and safeguards: transport, security and a functioning Internal Committee under the POSH Act. | We keep consent forms on file and check transport arrangements before rostering. |
| Contract labour | Under the OSH Code, contract-labour provisions and contractor licensing apply at 50 or more contract workers, and contract labour in core activities is restricted. Tamil Nadu's own rules were still in draft in September 2026. | We check the headcount thresholds and the core-activity question with you before deployment. |
| Welfare fund | Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Fund: ₹20 from the employee and ₹40 from the employer each year, deducted from December wages and paid by 31 January. | We deduct and pay it for every worker on our rolls. |

Some clients do not have a site in Madurai at all. They want workers from the southern districts for plants in Chennai, Hosur or Coimbatore. This is how we do it responsibly.
Wage, shift, location, accommodation and food, written down before anyone travels. Surprises on arrival are the main reason migrants leave in the first month.
Drives with ITIs and polytechnics, referrals from workers already placed, and local job portals in Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga.
Aptitude or trade tests and document checks in Madurai, so no one travels 400 km to fail a test.
Organised travel and a confirmed hostel or accommodation arrangement agreed with you, including who pays for what.
Our coordinator calls every worker in the first weeks. Early problems with food, housing or roster are fixed before they become resignations.
Planned leave around Pongal and local festivals, so workers come back instead of quitting to go home.
Common questions from Madurai employers and from companies recruiting in the south.
Ask us about your Madurai site →No. We manage Madurai work from our Chennai office in Guindy. We recruit locally, hold interviews and onboarding at your premises or a local venue, appoint a coordinator for larger teams, and run payroll and compliance centrally.

We can, for the right requirement. Sites one to three hours from Madurai are workable with a coordinator and planned visits. We will be honest if a site is too remote for us to support well.
