A laptop refresh, an ERP go-live, a new client contract or simply a ticket queue that has outgrown the team: the work has a start date, and the permanent headcount approval usually does not. Godstone's IT staffing services put screened helpdesk, desktop-support, NOC and application-support engineers, and the back-office operations staff behind them, on our payroll for the length of the project, with a contract-to-hire route when you want to keep them.
Roles, key skills, contract duration and work location are enough for us to plan the search and price it.
Most IT contract staffing for SMEs and mid-market firms is for the roles that keep the business running: the people who answer tickets, fix laptops, watch the network and keep business applications and back-office transactions moving.
For a growing SME or mid-market firm, the IT work almost always arrives before the approval to hire for it.
A laptop refresh, a branch roll-out or an ERP go-live needs a handful of engineers for a few months. A permanent requisition can take a quarter to approve and leaves you carrying the salaries after the project ends.
Ticket backlogs and burnt-out admins, or engineers paid as consultants with no PF, no written IP assignment and no background check: a misclassification and security risk waiting to surface.
Hands-on technical screening, a written contract term, PF, ESI and payroll handled by us, IP and confidentiality assigned to you, and the option to convert the people you want to keep.

Pay bands are indicative monthly gross figures for metro cities in 2026, drawn from published salary surveys; certifications, shift work and the specific technology stack move them up or down.
| Role | Hands-on screening | Indicative gross / month |
|---|---|---|
| IT helpdesk / service desk L1 | Live triage of a sample ticket queue, account and password tasks, ITSM tool basics, written English | ₹18,000–₹32,000 |
| Desktop / field support engineer | Windows and macOS imaging, printer and network troubleshooting, a hardware swap on a bench test | ₹16,000–₹35,000 |
| NOC L1 engineer | Reading a monitoring console, ping and traceroute diagnosis, escalation notes, rotational-shift readiness | ₹20,000–₹40,000 |
| System / network administrator | Active Directory, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace admin, firewall and switch basics, backup checks | ₹25,000–₹50,000 |
| Application support L1/L2 | SQL queries, log reading, reproducing a reported bug, ERP or CRM module familiarity | ₹30,000–₹60,000 |
| Back-office / data operations | Accuracy on a sample batch, Excel lookups and pivots, SOP adherence | ₹14,000–₹25,000 |

The right model depends on how long the work lasts and whether you want to keep the person. The one arrangement we steer clients away from is paying engineers as "consultants" when they work your hours, on your tools, under your supervision.
| Model | How it works | Use it when | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contract staffing | Engineer employed by Godstone and deployed to you for a fixed term; one monthly invoice | Ongoing support roles, backlog clearance, cover for leave or vacancies | You remain principal employer; contractor licensing under the OSH Code (formerly CLRA) applies once 50 or more contract workers are deployed |
| Contract-to-hire (C2H) | Starts on our payroll, converts to your rolls after an agreed period | You want to see on-the-job performance before a permanent offer | Fix the conversion window and fee in the contract before deployment |
| Project-based team | A defined team for a rollout, migration or go-live, released at the end | Work with a clear scope and end date | Agree milestones, overtime rules and handover documentation up front |
| Permanent hiring | We recruit; you employ from day one | Long-term roles and anyone holding critical access or knowledge | Takes longer to fill; attrition risk stays with you |
| Third-party payroll | You select the person; we employ and run payroll and compliance | You have candidates but no headcount on your own rolls | Same principal-employer duties as contract staffing |
Priced per engineer per month for contract and C2H staff, or per placement for permanent hires. The slider gives an indicative monthly bill for contract IT staff at an average gross of about ₹30,000 a month (a blend of helpdesk, desktop-support and NOC L1 roles), plus statutory costs and an illustrative service fee. Administrators and application-support roles price higher; back-office roles lower.
Each role has a practical task agreed with your IT lead before sourcing starts, so shortlists arrive with evidence attached.
A typical example: a laptop refresh and Windows migration across several offices, needing a lead and five field engineers for about three months. The same structure works for an ERP go-live, an office move or hypercare after a system change.
Your IT lead and our recruiter agree the task list, tools, sites, travel, shift and on-call needs, and the practical test each engineer must pass.
Shortlists with test results, background verification started, laptops, ID cards and system access requested so engineers can work from day one.
Engineers work to your runbook; we handle attendance, timesheets, overtime approvals and replacements, and share a weekly status with you.
Documentation and knowledge transfer, access revoked and assets returned on a checklist, then release, extend or convert the engineers you want to keep.
The four Labour Codes have applied since 21 November 2025, and they reach office-based IT work as well as factories. Most of what follows sits in the contract and the monthly compliance pack, not with your HR team.
Contract labour is now regulated under the OSH Code (formerly the CLRA Act). A contractor needs a licence once it deploys 50 or more contract workers, and you, as principal employer, remain answerable if wages or dues are not paid, so ask for monthly wage and PF/ESI challans.
Our employment terms assign work product and IP to you and bind engineers to your confidentiality and security policies. Under the DPDP Act you stay responsible for personal data your systems hold, so access should be role-based and removed on exit.
Rosters follow the 48-hour weekly limit; work beyond the daily or weekly limit is overtime at twice the ordinary wage rate. On-call and weekend cover need to be priced and written in, not assumed.
Fixed-term employees must get the same wages and benefits as comparable permanent staff and qualify for gratuity after one year. The cost of that sits in the contract rate, so compare vendors on like-for-like terms.
General information, not legal advice. See also labour law advisory and background verification.
Ask every vendor to break the rate down in the same way.
We will say so if another route fits better.

Get a rate card →An engineer or analyst is employed by a staffing company and deployed to work on your systems for an agreed term. You direct the day-to-day work; the staffing company runs the employment, payroll, PF, ESI and statutory compliance and invoices you monthly. It suits support roles, projects and cover where a permanent hire is slow or not justified.
The engineer starts on our payroll and moves to your rolls after an agreed period if both sides want it. The conversion window, any conversion fee and whether earlier service counts for notice or leave should all be written into the contract before deployment, not negotiated at the end.
It depends on the role, but very short engagements are hard to fill with good engineers, who are usually weighing a permanent offer. For support roles we recommend at least three to six months, with extensions agreed a month before the end date.
You should. Our employment terms assign work product to the client and bind engineers to your confidentiality, acceptable-use and security policies. If you have your own NDA or IP assignment template, engineers sign it before they get access.
Yes, if the contract says so. Client-site, hybrid or remote work, travel between sites, who supplies the laptop and how assets and access are returned at the end should all be agreed before deployment.
We aim to replace them within the term. Notice periods on our side are set so that there is time to find, screen and hand over to a replacement, and we aim to share replacement profiles before the outgoing engineer leaves.
In contract staffing we find, screen and employ the engineer. In third-party payroll you have already chosen the person and we only employ them and run payroll and compliance. The principal-employer duties are the same either way.
Yes. They are our employees, so PF applies, ESI applies where gross wages are within the ₹21,000 monthly limit, and gratuity follows the Code on Social Security, including the one-year rule for fixed-term employees. These costs are built into the monthly rate.
This page is for IT support, application support and back-office operations roles, usually in small numbers and often project-based. Voice, chat and email agent hiring for contact centres, done in batches, is covered on our BPO and contact-centre staffing page.
Send the roles, key skills, location and contract length. We aim to reply within one working day with a search plan and rate card.
