Every office and plant canteen runs on people handling food and water all day, and most contracts treat the role as unskilled labour with a kettle. Pantry staff supply is a food-handling role, whatever the job title says. Godstone Consultech screens for medical fitness, food-handling hygiene and grooming, employs every worker on our own payroll, and keeps PF, ESI and contract-labour records with us — so the person on your floor is documented, replaceable and accountable from day one.
Headcount served, timings and canteen scope are enough to price the roster.
Pantry work is high-touch and high-frequency. Hygiene protocol, hand-wash discipline and utensil sanitation are the difference between a service and an incident, so both are inducted and audited.
Food handling without training, medical fitness or supervision is a risk sitting in plain sight.
A pantry hand joins with no health card, no hand-hygiene induction and no grooming brief, and serves two hundred people a day from the first shift.
A hygiene complaint in an office pantry is embarrassing; in a plant canteen or a hospital it is an audit finding and a potential food-safety event with people off work.
Medical fitness and health card before deployment, FSSAI-aligned hygiene induction, grooming checked every shift and a supervisor who signs the sanitation log.

What clears before the worker reaches your gate.
A written service schedule turns “tea boy” into a role you can audit. A typical office pantry shift runs like this:
Clean and prime coffee machines, check water dispensers, sanitise counters and crockery, and record fridge temperatures.
Scheduled tea and coffee rounds, meeting-room service on booking, visitor refreshments and cafeteria counter support.
Utensil washing with detergent and hot-water rinse, counter wipe-downs after each round, and a signed sanitation log.
First-in, first-out stock rotation, expiry checks, indent for the next day and a clean, dry pantry at shift end.
Pantry work is food handling, whatever the job title. We follow the FSSAI hygiene conditions for food businesses (Schedule 4 of the FSS Licensing and Registration Regulations 2011) on every site.
| Requirement | What it means on your site |
|---|---|
| Medical fitness | Certificate from a registered medical practitioner before deployment, renewed at least once a year; sick workers stay off food duty |
| Personal hygiene | Clean uniform, hair cover, no jewellery or nail polish at the counter, cuts covered, hand-wash before every service |
| Food Safety Supervisor | Canteens and cafeterias under an FSSAI licence need a FoSTaC-trained Food Safety Supervisor; the licence holder names who fills the role |
| Water and equipment | Dispenser and machine cleaning log; filter changes by the vendor on schedule |
| Storage | Labelled, covered, off-floor storage; first-in, first-out; no expired stock on shelves |
| Separation from cleaning | Pantry staff do not clean washrooms; separate cloths and tools for food areas |
The number comes from the service schedule, not the seat count alone. These are the inputs we ask for:
Desk rounds need more people than a self-service pantry with machines; a cafeteria counter adds another post.
Number of rounds per day, meeting rooms and the peak hours when visitors arrive.
One pantry per floor, or a central pantry serving several floors with trolleys.
Plant canteens and 24×7 operations need shift cover and a reliever for the weekly off.
Pantry staff are usually paid the unskilled or general-worker minimum for the State and zone; a canteen supervisor sits higher. Indicative figures:
| State / category | Minimum wage (monthly) | In force from | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tamil Nadu — shops & commercial establishments, general worker | ₹14,044 (Zone A) to ₹13,823 (Zone D) | 1 Apr 2026 | Hotels and restaurants have a separate schedule |
| Haryana — unskilled | ₹15,220.71 | 1 Apr 2026 | Consolidated monthly rate |
| Market pay — kitchen helper (Indeed India) | Average ₹13,634; range ₹9,875–₹18,824 | 86 reports, May 2026 | Closest published proxy for pantry roles |

Numbers are agreed per site and written into the contract.
Yes. Every pantry worker has a medical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner before deployment, renewed at least once a year — the standard FSSAI sets for food handlers — and renewals are tracked so no certificate lapses on your premises.
FSSAI-aligned food-handling hygiene, hand-wash discipline, utensil sanitation, water-equipment upkeep and grooming standards, inducted before the first shift and refreshed periodically.
On the sanctioned headcount at or above the State minimum wage for the category, plus employer PF and ESI, bonus, leave and gratuity provision and uniform, plus the service fee agreed in the contract. Tea, coffee, snacks and cleaning consumables are billed at actuals or as a fixed monthly bundle — itemised either way.
It depends on seat count, service rounds per day and whether a canteen is being run. A written service schedule is prepared before deployment so the number is derived, not guessed.
In small offices a multi-skilled scope works. Where food is being served at volume, keeping pantry and cleaning duties separate is the safer hygiene practice.
A pantry that only serves tea, coffee and water to your own staff usually sits outside FSSAI licensing, but a canteen or cafeteria run by a caterer is a food business that needs FSSAI registration or a licence. Either way we apply the same food-handler standards: medical fitness, hygiene induction and a supervisor trained in food safety.
Pantry staff do the daily cleaning, descaling schedule and log; filter changes and repairs stay with the machine vendor under its service contract. We keep the cleaning and filter-change log on site so the vendor and your auditors see the same record.
Pantry staff handle food and drink — preparation, service, utensil hygiene and stock — and are screened as food handlers. An office boy handles errands, files and couriers and may do tea rounds only in small offices. Keeping the roles separate is safer once food is served at volume.
Send the role, headcount and site city. We aim to send an itemised rate card and deployment date within one working day.
