An office runs on the person who refills the pantry, moves the file and takes the courier — and nobody notices the role until it is empty for three days. Office boy staffing sounds like the simplest line on a facility contract, and it is the one most often filled by whoever is available. Godstone Consultech screens for basic literacy, grooming, courtesy and honesty checks, employs every worker on our own payroll, and keeps PF, ESI and contract-labour records with us — so the person on your floor is documented, replaceable and accountable from day one.
Floor count, timings and scope of work are enough to price the role.
Office support is a trust role in a low-visibility uniform. We verify antecedents, induct on grooming and confidentiality, and roster a reliever so a single leave day does not stop the floor.
It is nobody's KPI until the pantry is empty and a signed file has gone missing.
A relative of a vendor's supervisor arrives with no address verification, no grooming brief and no reliever behind him. On the day he does not come, the floor manages.
Documents move late, visitors wait, and the one role with access to every cabin and every desk was never verified. Recovering from a theft or a data-privacy incident costs far more than the wage.
Antecedent and address verification on file, grooming and confidentiality induction, and a reliever rostered so absence never means an empty desk.

What clears before the worker reaches your gate.
Most disputes with support staff start from an unwritten scope. This is how the three roles usually split in an office; in small offices one person can combine the first two columns.
| Task | Office boy / peon | Pantry staff | Housekeeping |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tea, coffee and water rounds | Small offices | Yes | No |
| Food service, cafeteria counters, utensil washing | No | Yes — food-handling role | No |
| Filing, photocopying, scanning, binding | Yes | No | No |
| Courier, bank, post office and vendor errands | Yes | No | No |
| Meeting-room setup and visitor refreshments | Yes | Yes | Room reset only |
| Stationery and consumable indents | Yes | Pantry stock only | Cleaning stock only |
| Floors, washrooms and waste | No | No | Yes |

The office boy has access to every cabin, cupboard and courier packet. The checks follow from that.
| Check | How it is done | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Identity and address | Aadhaar, present and permanent address, antecedent check | The role handles documents and keys |
| Literacy and numeracy | Reads addresses and labels in English and the local language; counts cash and change | Couriers, filing and petty cash |
| Two-wheeler documents (if errands) | Motorcycle licence, RC, insurance and PUC verified; licence status checked online | Unlicensed riding on your errand is your exposure too |
| Office equipment | Practical check on photocopier, scanner and basic smartphone use | Saves a week of hand-holding |
| Grooming and conduct | Interview plus induction on courtesy, confidentiality and POSH awareness | Front-of-office visibility |
| References | Previous-employer call where the candidate has worked before | Honesty history |
Three written rules make the office-boy role low-risk. We put them in the post brief at deployment.
Every outdoor errand is logged with time out, destination and time back; courier packets are handed over against a signature, not a nod.
Your finance team sets a per-errand cash ceiling and a handover register. Above it, a staff member or a cash-in-transit service takes over.
Office boys move sealed or tagged files only, never read or photograph documents, and do not remain in cabins after hours without authorisation.
Office boys are usually paid the unskilled minimum for the State and zone. Indicative figures:

Short, written obligations on both sides. Numbers are agreed per site.
Pantry service, filing and document movement, photocopying, courier and bank errands, stationery and consumable indents, and meeting-room setup. The scope is written per floor before deployment so expectations are not left to interpretation.
Start from the State minimum wage for the category — office boys and peons are usually paid at the unskilled rate, for example ₹14,044 a month in Tamil Nadu Zone A from 1 April 2026. Add employer PF and ESI, bonus, leave and gratuity provision and uniform, then the service fee agreed in the contract. The rate card shows each line separately.
Yes. Aadhaar and address verification, antecedent checks and previous-employer references where available are completed before deployment — this role has access to every cabin, so the check matters more than the wage.
A reliever is rostered against the position, so the desk is covered on planned leave and on unplanned absence. If a permanent change is needed, we aim to deploy the replacement within 15 days, with the reliever covering until then.
In a small office, yes — a combined scope is common and cheaper. As seat count and service rounds grow, splitting pantry, cleaning and errands holds standards better, and keeps food handling away from washroom duties.
Broadly, yes. “Office boy”, “peon”, “office attendant” and “office assistant” describe the same support role; the title matters less than the written scope. Most State minimum-wage schedules place peons and attendants in the unskilled category, so the wage floor is usually the same.
Yes, if he holds a valid motorcycle licence and the vehicle's registration, insurance and pollution certificate are current — we check all four before deployment. Fuel or per-kilometre conveyance should be reimbursed separately from wages, and the errand route logged.
Only within a written limit set by your finance team, with a handover register signed at each end. For larger amounts use a cash-in-transit service or your own staff; your insurer may also set conditions for cash carried by contract workers.
Send the role, headcount and site city. We aim to send an itemised rate card and deployment date within one working day.
